The ๐ to Starting
Why is getting started so difficult?
I would say the most difficult part of anything in life for me can be just getting started, whether its getting started for the first time on a new big project or just finding the best place to start and jump back in on a project youโve been working on.
Starting is hard.
Iโve never really given it much thought but the effort it takes for a car to start is quite literally an explosion of energy. Every time you want to get in your car and go somewhere you have to enact an explosion of energy to get things going.
Ok, I will concede that for us as the driver turning the key and starting the car really isnโt that difficult but thats because there is an intelligently engineered system that was created and made so simple that all the effort a person needs to get it started is a simple key (or button, for all y'all driving them fancy futuristic cars.)
What if we could harness this same idea in our daily lives?
What if there was a way for us to take the things within the day that are difficult to start and create a key to simplify getting them started?
Well, recently I've been trying to find the โKeyโ to help me get up to speed on living the life I want to live and its all come down to this one idea.
โโฆmake it a game and rig it so you always winโ - Tim Ferris
This idea of making my metrics for measuring success and sticking to my habits so simple and small, literally lowering the bar all the way to the ground and stepping over it, sounds silly but let me tell you it works.
This can look different for everyone but for me personally it looked like dropping my expectations all the way to zero when it came to tackling new tasks. Things like simply picking up a book and reading even a paragraph or writing a single sentence in my Journal I would mark down as a success. Once I marked down that small step more often then not I would continue past that point and end up accomplishing more than I ever had before.
When we simplify our projects and tasks down to the simplest little chunk, like pushing a button, we allow more space for us to celebrate our success and build energy to fuel us forward on our Journey to our desired destination.
Take Aways
-
Simplifying down to the easiest possible step is the key to getting us started and back on the road to where we want to be.
-
Celebrating even the smallest steps and efforts can explode into a momentum you didnโt know you had in you.
Questions to ask yourself:
-
What is the smallest step, โkeyโ๐ to your daily habits or actions that will get you were you wanna be? ๐
-
What systems can I create or put into place that will make taking those actions as easy as turning a key?
-
What are you proud of accomplishing this week? (Iโd like to know and celebrate with you โบ๏ธ)
